Why do pools Leak?

Common Leaks

Pools leak for a number of reasons. Some new pools leak from the beginning, others develop leaks over time. There are dozens of places a pool can leak from.

New Pools:
  • fittings not glued together properly
  • bad grout lines on tiles
  • too much stress on pipe causing cracked fittings
  • skimmer set too low allowing water over the top
  • structure not engineered properly

Existing Pools:
  • structural cracks from stress on shell (most often in pools built on or near a slope)
  • cracked fittings on pipes (usually when the plumbing is too small for the pump or when fittings are stressed)
  • skimmer face pulling away from shell
  • leaking valves in plumbing
The most common leaks are:
  • damage to grout line around skimmer face
  • 1" or smaller fittings in spa jets
  • structural cracks in plaster and shell
  • damaged skimmer

These are the most likely places for a swimming pool leak. We have experience with all of these, and make the repair as easy as possible for you.
